Off page factors

What is there besided PR and anchor text?

I have 3 pages that rank in the top 3 when doing allinanchor: search but when doing a regular search on the same keywords they rank lower. On one of them there is a 74 place difference. The others there is a 3-8 place difference.

Shouldn't my page be ranked the same, if not higher, on the regular search then the allinanchor: search? (I hope that made since.) I'm thinking I might of over optimized the on page factors.

Any advice?

jason, anchor text weighs heavily but it's not the only measure. Aside from on-page factors, are you specifically asking what the off-page factors are that carry weight in scoring besides anchor text?

Marcia,

Since I'm already ranking very high for the allinanchor search, is there another off page factor I'm missing?

Because one of my pages ranks #7 in allinanchor and #80 in a regular search on the same keyword.

Does that mean that there is defiantly something wrong with my on page optimization or is there another off page factor I'm forgeting about?

My belief is that the only off page factors that can affect your ranking is anchor text, and PR. Thus, in your case I figure if it isn't PR then on page factors are the issue.

That's what I was thinking.

After looking at the top ten websites for this keyword (keyword get searched over 17000 times/day), it seems there is very little on page optimization going on. It seems the keyword is in their title tags, once in an alt tag and a few times across the page. It seems like Google gives a big deduction for over optimization.

I believe so too. However, from what I have seen it takes substantial optimization. Up to 5% for a relatively short page should be fine. It is only when KWD gets suspiciously high this kicks in.

Well, I'm reworking these page. Googlebot usually picks them up everyother day and cache them within a couple days after that so hopefully I should see some kind of change in the next weeks or so. I'll post back here when I see a change, and share what I learned. If I do learn something. :) Thanks.
