Hello. Please excuse my bad english.
I have a question and please , excuse me if this is a dummy one, but I need to know if a page can still have a good PR although it's not included into ODP.

Thanks a lot.

I guess so. One of my sites is a PR 5 and it is not in the ODP yet. I think as far as P R is concerned the ODP is pretty much like any other quality link.

PR is PR no matter where it comes from, it's just a number.

Sometimes it is hard for a new site to get high PR links - the ODP used to be an easy way to give a new site a PR kick start. But a link is a link - it doesn't matter if you get a PR 6 link from ODP or from your aunties christmas story site - it's still a PR 6 link.

Don't worry about PR. Just look at your position.

PR is't everything.

If your site A exists in a dmoz category with PR 6 & other links amounting to 25, and

Your site B is linked from a different site with PR 6 & having 25 other links,

Then both the links carry almost equal weightage, excluding the other factors that also are considered by Google while computing the relevancy.

Stress more on links other than dmoz, cause you need to be a super-human to get a link there. There is no guarantee as well.

Links from the Open Directory help, but you can get a high PageRank without dmoz links--definitely.

PR is based mainly on:
1. How many links you have
2. What is the PR of the page they come from

So, you can get good PR from anywhere

ODP helps because:
1. It has high PR
2. It is a free listing!
3. It tends to get duplicated on many sites and each of those duplications count as additional points towards PR

Most ODP categories, particularly in Shopping, don't have very high PR. And, they have lots of sites listed, so lots of outbound links diluting PR. Yes, there are some ODP cats with high PR, and few outbound links. These are rare, and most likely where your site fits in the ODP won't be one of these. However, if you are lucky enough to have a worthwhile non-erotic informational site about whips, then the fact [dmoz.org...] has a PR7 is good news for you. :)
