Hey guys,

this is a kind of a starter question but i couldn't stop myself from asking this...

I was wondering if anyone knew how important is the I'm Feeling lucky button on www.google.com. what I realize is that the I'm feeling lucky button goes to one of the sites.

why does it do that and what's the importance on it..and do the users know and what importance does this have on normal users and on google?

it would be great if someone can answer this question for me..

Thanks in advance

The I'm feeling lucky button goes to the first site ranked in the normal search engine results.

I guess many use it who are too lazy to type in the whole url.

"dmoz" and click the button.

It's the biggest motivator Google is giving to the SEO world ;)

Are you sure that "many people use it". I'm not disputing the fact, it's just that I *never* use it and thought that most people were the same...

I was about to reply that the "I'm feeling lucky" button was a gimmick -- a nice hook when Google was trying to win market share (it intrigues new visitors) but something Google should consider getting rid of now that it's established.

But, if people really are using it, then I guess it should stay. I'm sure Google check statistics on these things ... don't they, GoogleGuy?

I used it for the first time this week just out of curiosity. Do I count?

I also have been using Google for all our search needs and had never clicked the "feeling lucky" button until curiosity got the better of me in a moment of weakness this week. It went to the #1 listing - my competitior. (we're #2).

I'll never use it again.

I figure they should get rid of it. It goes in their own benefit.

When the user clicks on it, he or she will never see the fabulous "Adwords" to the right.

Maybe they should re-name it : "Spend other people's money" and go directly to the No 1 Ad in Adwords.

That would generate some cashflow!

The button that hides in plain sight?

Used it only once and even then, when I mentioned it to people who use Google all the time, most didn't remember even seeing it.

Used it when told to search for " weapons of mass destruction "and hit "..Lucky"
