Change file name from uppercase to lowercase

Does changing your file name links from uppercase to lowercase hurt?

I have restructured our site and noticed that some file names were linked in uppercase. I have changed them to complete lowercase and have noticed that google has indexed both thinking they are seperate files when they are of course the same. Will this hurt in the long run?

It is best to name all files using lower case for everything.

Less chance of making mistakes this way.

It might take a few months for Google to sort out the listings.
