File Not Found's disappearing

A couple of questions

It looks like some of the 404 File Not Found pages that I have been waiting to disappear from the search results for my site are finally going away. I had some cgi scripts that were in the index before I found out how to Disallow through robots.txt.

I did the disallow and then renamed the script so it would not be able to be accessed from the search return links any more a week or so ago. Looks like Google has dropped 14 or 15 of the 138 today.

My questions...

They shouldn't show back up if I leave everything as is, should they? I have had pages showing up and disappearing (Freshbot, I think?) and wonder if the opposite can happen.

And, if those pages are gone for good, is there more of a chance that Google will pick up more of my other pages.
