Zero PR

Just a quick question. Can a site, that was indexed in April of this year, has 230 backlinks (most quality ones), sits at #1 in Google for a few popular keyphrases, not have any PR yet? How can a site in this situation have no PR? If I had a penalty would I still be showing up #1 in searches done at Google?...and these are NEW positions at Google for my site in the last couple of weeks.

Look, I know that there have been massive changes at G, but I repeatedly see in here people commenting how sites indexed in May now have PR. What's going on with mine? Just curious..maybe I'm not seeing something? I mean, I don't mind..I'm still getting quality traffic from G and my valuable link partnerships....

As long as you have good placement, I wouldn't worry. The toolbar PR might just not be up to date.

I don't have as many backlinks as you do, but the rest of the scenario is the same for one of my sites. Nice results for good keywords, but PR0 since late March.

I should also have some newer backlinks showing up by now, but nope. It's quite frustrating - but good serp results cushion the disappointment.

One problem I am having is that it's less likely for related sites to link to me when the perception is that the site is PR0. So sort of a catch-22 there...

GG has, I believe, stated that the toolbar is not to be relied upon at the current time.

The PR can be a distraction. Focus on all known good seo practices. Many top ranking sites have low pr.

Too much time and energy can be zapped whilst chasing high pr.

The toolbar cannot be relied on.... The trouble is even its "wrongness" is inconsistant. I also have a relativey new site up. It has a PR on its home page but none of it is travelling to the inner pages. I guess we just have to sit back and wait it out.

I to have a handful of sites that are busy with google traffic, rate well, but no PR. Prospective linkers don't like it, but the sites perform well.

Got to agree peewhy (strange nick ;()

Not only are we not seeing PR having any affect on SERPs but links do not seem to matter either!

For 2 word keyphrases, I am seeing sites with 1 link beating sites with many 1000's...

That grey/green bar got us all going though didn't it?

Imagine for one minute ... not that I'm saying this would really happen ... but, if Google sold banners and other links based on clicks ... how many have we all added to that sum total just checking pr and related googlisms?

I think you meant "based on impressions" and not "clicks"?

Whatever... you have to 'click' to get anywhere.
