Yahoo dropped to PR9

My toolbar points to www3.google.com and now indicates a PR9 for Yahoo's homepage. It appears to be more than a coincidence that this happened on the day Yahoo announced a merger with Overture.

I don't think it's got anything to do with anything that's happened today, but I'm getting PR9 for Yahoo on www.

Its been that way since Esmerelda, AFAIK...every time I've checked, anyway.

That's with my toolbar set to www-fi.

Hmmm, I think it is already PR9 for a long long time.

too many reciprocal links for the two of them?
Macromedia, Google, [bobby.watchfire.com...]
all have lots of unreciprocated links.
The latter may be the result of PR being a value of Google's opinion, when compared to the link backbone of yahoo. Especially Toolbar PR. I don't think that would even have to represent their opinion.
Of course, who am I to say. I haven't gone through their 26,900 backlinks. Similarly, I haven't been thbrough Yahoo!'s 799,000 either. Hmmm

1) Google has publicly said, multiple times, that the PR on Yahoo and DMOZ are not artificial or manually adjusted -- they're whatever falls out of the PR algorithm. They've drifted up and down before; if the PR scale weren't so coarse-grained, we'd probably see some movement every month. As it is, we only see the movement from 9.449 to 9.551, not the movement from 8.51 to 9.49.

2) The incestuous relationships are probably detected by some sort of "matrix partitioning" attempt, which would be impacted by both incoming and outgoing links. So Yahoo and DMOZ, which are the two most connected sites on the web --far more promiscuous than incestuous -- are safe from that filter.
