Two domains pointing at same webspace

I am new here, and I am sure this has been asked before. I have a client who has a mydomain.com & mydomain.co.uk set up so that both domains resolve to the same files. I dont want them to get banned for duplicate content. Is this OK, or is there something that they have to do?

If it has been discussed before I would appreciate a point in the right direction.

Thanks

Thanks for the advice. Had a look at it and maybe need to research 301 redirects. May not be the way to go, but will search Webmaster World for more similar threads.

Thanks

This should be ok for you if they have different ip addresses for both, or they reside on a different server as google looks at them as two different websites.
If on the other hand they are on the same server and have the same ip's then yes this could be considered as duplicate content.

bekyed,

I think you have it the wrong way around.

Most of my clients have a couple of domains pointing to one site. I have never found a problem as long as the website is served from the same server and ip address.

Hmm. My client has the same IP address for both sites.

I've got a site with several domains all mapped to the same IP. The reason is to protect branding. The domains cover the business name and trademarked product names. We only promote one domain name though.

Google sees all of the domains as the same site (ie. when searching for backlinks on any of the domain names, the same results are displayed). It appears that Google is the only search engine that treats them all as one site. Doing a similar backlink check on other engines returns exact results pertaining to the specific domains (99% are to the company name domain).
