Some of us are limited by the text we can use to describe links, or have used images as links instead.

So assuming Google also parses the Html of a link, keywords here cant hurt. So instead of having a directory labelled images, how about one named after a keyword?

Also instead of a link like 'news.htm', how about one like 'news.htm#keyword'?

I guess you can, if you want, go to the trouble of adding the Keyword anchor at the recieveing page.

It's just an idea, any thoughts? Is it spamming?

"Also instead of a link like 'news.htm', how about one like 'news.htm#keyword'?"

I dont see how this would be of any use to you, I would not use it. However you could do something like this /cheetos_news.htm and it would be fine. Hey I have cheetos on my desk at the moment, so no guff needed.

As to the limitations of text you can use in your description I will give you a few pointers.

a. use keywords in the meta tags.

b. at the top of the site, make sure its actual text.

c. within the first paragraph.

Those have been working for years for me. If you want examples do a search and look at the description and the site and find out where the keywords in the description were taken from and apply it to your site. Have a good weekend.

I would guess that for links:
widget_news.htm would be good
widget-news.htm would be better
widget-news.htm#widgets would be even better

Either the anchor won't have any benefit, or possibley a slighty positive benefit - I'm unsure.

I would like any feedback positive or negative on this stategy.

Well I have not seen it used before. I stick to html and it does the trick.

"widget-news.htm#widgets" Heck give it a try and see what happens and then let us know. You could do all of them and see what works best for that matter.

Someone else pointed out that Google may see page.html#keyword as different from page.html and this may also change the PR distribution.

I may well give it ago. I've already renamed my images folder, images-keyword and am happy to try that.
