ok, I have a relativley new site which I have been promoting all over the place and getting links from a lot of PR4+ sites last month, and I know that the links were put on their site beofre the deep crawl, and I know their sites have been crawled.

If I do a search for "mywebsite" I get hundreds of hits (where the result is a site that is linking to mine), but if i search for "link:mywebsite.net" i get none, same with www.mysite.net. Although in the new index (currently on www2) One has been added, strangely enough its a page from a website that hasnt existed since early feb... What is going on? Ik now i've had links from PR4+ sites since like Jan, but they never showed up either. Is there some lag involved in propogating links in this way? If so, why?

I thought I would be getting hundreds more PR4+ links into my site this month, but it doesnt look like it.

How do you know they are PR4?
If your answer is the toolbar you need to be aware that it does estimate PR a lot of the time so what appears to be a PR4 page might be a little lower.

Has your site's rank increased?
Irregardless of whether you can see the backlinks or not your site rank might have increased thanks to those links even if they aren't "important" enough to show up on the backlinks list.

Most importantly are these links actually giving you any good traffic?

Having a high PR site is nice but it's better to have sources of quality traffic which aren't tied to the whims of search engines.

Also building up a set of incoming links from similar sites is great insurance should the search engine gods decide to treat you badly one month as you can be sure that your traffic wont suddenly dissappear overnight.
