Sorry if this question may sound newbie'ish, but I honestly don't know what the difference is between the www-sj.google.com, www2.google.com, www3.google.com sites are.

What's the reason for them too?

Good question,

Google has a lot of different data center and when you search from google.com it is divert to one of the datacenter.

When updates occur, they usually want to test they new index with 1 datacenter and this time, it is the SJ datacenter. They will need feedback from users (esp those in webmasterworld) and so www2 and www3 will always be directed to the datacenter with the new index, that's SJ for this month (EX for last month).

You whenever you access www2 or www3 or SJ, you will see the same result. Hope this help.

as someone else pointed out yesterday on a post. those 3 url's all point to the same IP, therefore the same data. At least as of yesterday they were. You can ping them to see it changed.
