How to exclude my own site from a search for external links?

How to search for external links only?

When I search for links pointing to my site using "link:iccaustin.coop", the results show all my internal pages that link back to the home page. How can I exclude internal pages from the search? I've tried "link:iccaustin.coop -site:iccaustin.coop" and "link:iccaustin.coop -inurl:iccaustin.coop", but neither of these works.

Thanks for any help! -MBJ-

Go to All the Web and search

link.all:www.yoursite.com -site:www.yoursite

It's different results than Google but it gives you some idea.

Yep Alltheweb is the way.

Google does not allow combined searching of the link: command with other parameters.

By the way using the URL Investigator of alltheweb might be easier.
It gives you the choice on clicking on: "all XXX external web pages that link"

That is also all pages that deeplink to you internal pages.

BTW: is the "FAST Facts" on the top right corner new?

If you want to know what pages Google has linking to you the following will work (for a few hundred backlinks at most):

1. Go to Google > Advanced Serach
2. Set to 100 results per page
3. Do link:mysite.com
4. Go to last page of results and click on "repeat the search with the omitted results included".
5. Save the page or pages of results.
6. Use your favorite text editor or (better) some automated tool to remove links from your own site.

Using a kit of UNIX-like tools on a windows machine I have been able to automate the last step, it takes me less than five minutes every month to get my list of Google links.
