For about 18 months one of my pages was ranked first out of 2.2M+ pages
for a fairly competitive keyword phrase.
Then on 4/27/03 my server went down and the bot came by while it was down.
The server was down for 3 days.
So Google dropped my page. I manually resubmitted it.
The page has not been reindexed.
I made no changes to the page - nothing.
Please advise what, if anything, I can do to get reindexed.
This is hurting where I sit - on my billfold.
Thanks fellow travelers.

The only thing you can do is hurry up and wait.

I agree with WebGuerrilla, all you can do is wait.

You might try getting some more links to the site which may bring the Googlebot back quicker via the links and it will keep you busy while your waiting.

Ditto. Only thing I'd add from experience is don't do anything hasty, some time ago previously whilst in a similar boat I messed about with link farms, FFA pages, keyword stuffing & the like whilst waiting to be reindexed, trying anything to get some traffic, & I'm assuming it was those actions that went on to get me a big fat unshiftable Page Rank Zero on Google, instead of a reindex, subsequently..

Good luck :)

I would put up a mirror of your server or site located at a different data center. That's why we have ns1 and ns2 records. It's cheap insurance if you are making money.!

Why would something down on 4/27 be gone from the index?
How do you know the bot came around if your server was down?

Hi Powdork:
"Why would something down on 4/27 be gone from the index?

Logic my friend. I was in the 1 position and Ole freshbot
was coming around about every day. My server was down 3 days.
Could be another factor but I'm stumped.
Thanks

The Deepcrawl finished before the 27th, so you should be back in after the next dance.

I've never seen a site drop from the index for being down when freshbot came around. Maybe there is some sort of three strike rule. Where if it doesn't find you back up its 2nd or 3rd time around it drops you. Does it show up when searching for your url? I would certainly hope that if it was freshbot that didn't find you and you were dropped as a result you wouldn't have to wait till June for the update following the next deep crawl.

GoogleGuy, it would be nice to know this since we schedule maintenance and such to avoid being down during the deep crawl. There's not much we can do to avoid being down when freshbot comes around.

Just wait, and fire the the guy who runs the Servers. If its you just commit suicide :)

Seriously, im sypathetic to you, it must be hard what your going through, I feel your loss!

However I say kick it, make sure the servers up, prevent the server from going down again. And I say within a week you'll be back in business.

In the middle of January, my sites were down from a day to four days from geting hacked to do a DOS attack on a Government web site and I never saw the sites get dumped.

Yes, I too feel for you Jakpot. I also have a rather nasty feeling I will be in the same boat with my new site... it was down from 23rd-29th, so I am fully expecting a no-show in the next index.

I don't think there is anything that can be done. Like you I have re-submitted the thing via the submission page (I know - they are hardly likely to send Googlebot out just for me, but desperate times breed desperate responses). I have rechecked the links to it..... and that's all I can do.

And oh yes... change your host, as I did.

I had a site down last month for something like 24 hours, and I didnt have a problem. The PR is around 6 there, so I know googlebot used to visit it regularly, hence there is a high possibility that it cam around when the site was down. But now effect. Furthermore Google mentions that old pages slowly fade away in their index, and NOT "old pages are deleted immediately" from the index. Hence that should'nt be a problem should it?
