Hello,

I purchased Smart Page generaator software for to use for my web sites. Being some what of a "Newbie" I used it on one of my Web Sites. Before I read that Google will penilize you and even ban your site for using these types of pages my web site was spidered.

I took these smart pages off my web site several weeks a go after learning they would do more harm then good.

How do I go about getting my web site back in good standing with Google. I would put my URL in this post byt I'm a new user.

Were you banned or penalized? If not, then chances are, you're ok. If you get penalized, then email Google explaining that you had removed the pages immediately upon learning about the penalty, and that it was prior to actually being penalized. Hopefully, you'll be back to normal with the next update.

Welcome to Webmasterworld, dpd1998.

A friend of mine used to create template pages using a well-known application. He owns more than 50 domain names all created using those 'smart' programs.

The result: most of his pages are now buried deep down in the Goggle’s index and his clients are complaining every day they get no visitors. Not to mention that they all have the same design and the number of enquiries generated are 100 times lower than a good looking web site which is say 2-3 positions further down.

Instead of using this software, just keep hanging around... this forum is an awesome resource of very useful information.

Until two months ago I knew almost nothing about SEO. Now the sites I am working on have many top 10 positions for very competitive keywords.

The same applies to those position-checking programs. I have gained a lot of knowledge by just checking my rankings manually.

Since I am not an expert, I cannot tell if it is right or wrong to use such software. But I personally would not go for it... Say a 1000 people bought this software and let's say 50 of them a competing for your keywords. How do you beat them if you have the same approach?

SEO is about being unique, about being a leader, not a follower, so everything that comes from inside is better than what a piece of soft can produce.

IMHO.

I wasted 20 minutes of my life yesterday on a phone call-in meeting that was supposed to be about building web pages from scrap for the SE's and turned out to be a "Smart Pages" damage control session.

I had never heard of Smart Pages before, but the tone of the call was very "late night sponsored commercial for blend-o-matic" style. One guy spoke, the other guy was AMAZED. It seemed like a doorway generator, and they tried to explain away that some doorways were ok, and that as long as you only use this on spoke sites, the hub would be intact (as in not penalized).

I'd love to tell you where this phone call went after that, but I hung up.

Thank you for replying. I'm not sure if I was banned or penilized. I believe I have been penilized because I still have some pages index. The important ones aren't.

What is the email address I need to email Google. I have seen this statement to email them many time searching the other post.

SmartPages are just a coined term for doorway pages.

I heard the originator of this technique claim that they are 100% legit, because the embedded redirect sends users to relevant content. IMO that is pure marketing spin, and your setting yourself up for trouble if you buy into it.

    Google's guidelines are clear:

    • Don't employ cloaking or sneaky redirects.
    • Don't create multiple pages, subdomains, or domains with substantially duplicate content.
    • Avoid "doorway" pages created just for search engines, or other "cookie cutter" approaches such as affiliate programs with little or no original content.

SmartPages are doorway pages that violate all of these rules. SmartPages use hidden redirects, boilerplate text, and are for Search Engines only with no original content.

While it is true that one may not get caught if you use them in small quantities on low profile targeted keywords as the originator recommends, you are still taking a risk. And the risk is that your competitor finds one or more of your smart doorways and files a spam report with Google.

The good news for you dpd1998 is that Google said at the PubCon that you can get back your PR, rankings, etc. about 30 days after removing offenses from your site if you email them.

You might also ask for refund on your SmartPage generator.

This stuff was trouble when WebPosition Gold pushed it, and it is trouble now too. Anyone using this or considering doing so is playing with fire. You might get away with it for awhile, but your likely to eventually get burned.

It is not that hard to write an optimized 200 word article around a keyword phrase. Pick your phrases, write your content, link em up, and watch your pages get ranked. Doorway pages are the lazy man's way, and the lazy ways don't work in the long run.
