Hi,

I bought a french domain name (or at least a .com with french consonance) a while ago and decided it was about time to make it profitable, hence I'm designing it right now.

My problem is that even though I'm french, I can't speak technical french for the subject related to my site - been living in England for more than 3 years now and started designing sites 2 yers ago. The site will have a french version and english one (ROI ROI ROI ;))

The site will provide internet services but I don't know what french search terms are most looked for on google.com and google.fr for that. Is it: creation de site internet, creation de site web, etc ... could any french guy/girl help me out?

Thanks

Leo

edit reason: typos (can't speak french nor english ;))

le_gber...

Welcome to the world "en français"

Being french too, I have exactly the same problem as you.. :-)

I was in google.fr myself yesterday and it's true that making french language sites to be visible in the engines is not always easy.

If I was in your place, I would use:

- Conception de sites web
- Design de site
- Rédaction de sites web
- Édition de sites... etc.

If you would like some examples of the many french and bilingual sites we produce, just sticky me and I will be "heureux" to send you some links...

Bonjour mon ami :-)

I must say that I went on overture and checked and it seems that 2520 search have been made for 'createur de site internet' but it seems so few compared to US or UK, is the market in France really that small.

Can a French Grizzly bear be of any help? Go for "site Web" and dig variants...

[inventory.overture.com...]

Use without accents

[inventory.overture.com...]

Use with accents

That will give you a rough idea...

À bientôt!

I have a french version of my site and I just wrote it how it sounded right. I get hits but no sales. Oh well my PR went up 1 point from doing it so something useful came of it I guess.

I won't be selling anything - I think - it's just because I plan an email marketing campain in France and want people to think that I'm closer to them that I actually am :) Also I want to 'be there' in case somebody looks on Google.fr for a 'web agency' as they apparently call it in france.

Ben merde alors!

ROFL - it has been a while since I last heard this ;)

Bonjour,

I write too a bilingual site, in native hopefully good French and in poor English ; not much to say specific to French just a remark. SEO_practitioner suggested :

- Conception de sites web
- Design de site
- Rédaction de sites web
- Édition de sites... etc.

You can note there a difficulty you will not meet in English ("Website conception - Website design" ...) which comes from the central "de". Of course Google will answer that "de is a very common word and was not included in your search, but will not return the same results at a query for "Conception de sites web" or for"Conception sites web" (for the first try, it will give precedence to pages where some word lies between "conception" and "sites", for the second to pages where both words are contiguous).

Now what do effectively real people search for? I checked on this example on the Overture tool : 132 with the "de" for 225 without the "de" ; clearly there is an advantage, though not gigantic, for optimizing without the "de" (and futhermore, since it is not natural and even ungrammatical to write expressions without the "de" in a French sentence, at least some of your competitors will certainly miss this trick).

The difficulty is that you must find some astute way to write the two words consecutively without the "de" and not to look too strange to human visitors.

I checked on this example on the Overture tool : 132 with the "de" for 225 without the "de"

création de site internet = 2520
création site internet = 1331
conception de site internet = 436
conception de site web = 132
design de site web = 22

and finally

web agency = 589

(based on google.fr)

My choice is made I'll go for the first one - thanks everyone.
