Dropped but now back in Google

Pages showing lower in listings than before

I've noticed my pages that were in the top 20 results are now much lower (40-50 place), or are nowhere at all.

I don't think I was dropped for spamming, as I've changed very little and got back in.

Does it take several updates for page positions to settle? hopefully back to their previous position!

It's tough to determine what the problem might be, with so little info. How long were you in the top 20? Do you take snapshots of the top 100 listings each month for all your main keywords and are you tracking the ongoing results?

There are so many elements that can change a position from your competitors and what they are doing to changes you might have made, no matter how insignificant you might think they are.

Once you reach a position it becomes really important to track all your results each month and compare them. Eventually you begin to see patterns, some make sense and others don't.
