I have a client site with a Flash intro getting high in important SERPS.
Adding Flash itself shouldn't hurt you unless you remove text content that is important to your phrases and now embed them in the Flash.
So long as you don't take away from the HTML stuff you should be fine IMO.

Ensure that there is always not only HMTL content on that page but also HTML links, e.g. if you have an intro with a getURL at the end.

if the flash is the main content of the page, i'd say it'll hurt
if the flash is just a nice touch within the content, i'd say you're fine

I have a Flash embedded file within an HTML page that has plenty of other content on the page. The flash is not the main attraction of the page and is just added fluff for visual effect.
This page ranks #1 on many very competitive terms.
So, Flash when done right, will have no bad effect on your ranking.

simply make sure any text and links are html and you will be just fine.

Thats what I thought, it is not the main part of the page, just a method to get some nice design and marketing points across.
