On 25 April 1953 Nature published the paper by Crick and Watson entitled 'A Structure for Deoxyribose Nucleic Acid' which is why today is considered by many as the official birthday.

But Crick announced their discovery in his and Watson's local Eagle pub in Cambridge on February 28th 1953. Which is why anyone who has visited the Eagle in Cambridge city centre will be left in no doubt when the real birthday was :)

Makes me wonder how many people who don't do a mouse over on the logo will just think either Google is broken or their browser is? I picked up on it immediately, but that is because I know Google is known to dork around with their logos, and am familiar with representations of DNA structure.

Hmmm, the alt text for the logo just mentions the "50th Anniversary of DNA"... I wonder how many people will think DNA was invented 50 years ago... :)

Oh, come on. Even I know that DNA has been around for at least a couple hundred years. ;)

rogerd,

I love this one.

mcavic and GoogleGuy: I can't remember when we started plugging together those AAU-CGT-triplet molecules ... it's too long ago ... but sometimes I think we've done something suboptimal.

Sorry. Very sorry ;)

For all the logo lovers:
April 25 is Anzac Day in Australia & NZ. Head over to www.google.com.au or www.google.co.nz for the logo we are seeing. (Although I'm now posting on the 26th local time.... :)
