1.) Good site structure
2.) More backlinks than the site with higher PR
3.) Website < 2 years old
4.) Freshtag (fresh content)

Post your ideas.

How do you get backlinks? What is freshtag?

> SEO

:-) Yep, that's it.

Title, whole phrases and relevant link text from other domains are all big factors.

ogletree, you can get backlinks from useful or interesting content; some people find that asking for links helps. You'll probably find the Link Development Forum [webmasterworld.com] useful.

For fresh listings, I suggest starting with lazerzubb's Deepbot and Freshbot FAQ [webmasterworld.com], Marcia's Everflux thread [webmasterworld.com], GoogleGuy Explains Everflux [webmasterworld.com].

As for "2.) More backlinks than the site with higher PR..."

a) If you already have more backlinks and nevertheless lower PR, then this way evidently doesn’t work.
b) If you merely going to develop more backlinks and quality of each of them gonna be the same as that of your competitor, then this way will definitely work.

As for "4.) Freshtag (fresh content)..."

The Google subdivides all indexed sites into several categories:

1. Updated in the past 3 months
2. Updated in the past 6 months (except past 3 mo)
3. Updated in the past year (except past 6 mo)
4. Updated in the anytime (except past year)

You may reveal all these categories in the G's Advanced Search in the line started with "Date ..."

Also, I suspect there is an additional category:

0. (zero). Updated in the past day (News, Stock etc...)

In addition, there is some mysterious bond between the last category and the "Data Tags" in SER.

So, if you update your site every 3 months, the G'll never skip it from SER for the reason of old content.
Otherwise, sometimes it'll be skipped in spite of your PR9 and fine art of the SEO.

>>3.) Website < 2 years old

Isn't this reversed? I thought Website > 2 years old was generally thought to get a little boost as an older establishment.

Hard to say if there is any boost from age. The only advantage here may be that the older sites have had more opportunity to build up their links.

True. In any case, I think #3 is incorrect, I see no reason a new page would have an advantage over an old one except for an Everflux burp.
