How do I boost PR rank of certain pages?

I hope I can explain this clearly.

Our site has a PR of 5 for the main url. say www.widgets.co.uk

The main categories leading from this - about 6 in all - also have PR 5. This might be www.widgets.co.uk/orange

Of the content pages leading from the PR 5 categories, some have PR4 but a most have only PR 3.
Is there any way I could boost this PR on these content pages and why would a few have PR4 with the same link structure and others only PR3?
Hope you can help.
Thanks

as long as the number of pages and the incoming links doesn't change the total amount of PR on your site (sum of PR over all pages) stay the same. However, by changing the structure of your site from hierarchical to flat you can change the distribution of PR. In the latter case PR would be distributed more equally over the pages. If this ends up in PR3, PR4 or PR5 for all pages or another configuration depends on the structure of your site, the number of pages and other parameters.

To get a more flat structure you can e.g. add some direct links to some content pages on your main page and crosslinking content pages of different categories.

doc_z,,
Thanks for that.
Unfortunately because of the nature of the site, I am unable to tinker too much with the structure but I will try to implement your suggestions.
Thanks again.

Strange thing.
I have just checked the backward links for Google on the pages on our site that have a lower PR.
The ones with PR 3 do not show any backward links, even though they are subject to the same hierarchical structure as the ones showing PR4 and above which do show backward links.
Some have been on the site as long as the ones with PR4.
For some reason, Google cannot find any backward links for these pages.
Has anyone any idea why this has happened and is there any way of rectifying it?

I may be wrong but I think that Google only shows back links on pages with a PR of 4 and above.

It doesn't mean that there aren't any - just that they don't show them.

Peter,

Mmmm - that could be it.
Still leaves me with the puzzle as to why apparently similar pages subject to the same structure vary in PR.

I would guess that the reason why you get different PR for the content pages is that the structure is very similar but not identical. This could lead to ToolbarPR 4.01 for one page and 3.99 for the other. Since the Toolbar just show integer numbers this yields PR4 respectively PR3. However, the effect for the SEPRS would be small.

Also, I agree with elgumbo.

I have a similar problem with PR4 and PR5 links not showing in my backlinks. Anyone had this problem before? These pages are all internal site pages, some of which have links directly from the homepage. I have checked Google's index and they are there, yet are no where to be seen in my backlinks. Could it be that these links are hidden? I noticed when doing a backlink search that only about half the links that Google says are there show up.
