I've also seen a marked lack of freshtags so far this month, but maybe it's still early after the update/crawl to call.

Also, although caches may be updating, i've not seen any new pages appearing in the serps yet.

<Added>Ooops, just checked and found a whole bunch of newly added pages ;) - but you're right - no fresh tags.

I wonder why they would do this? Maybe to make it less obvious and discourage people from trying to coax Freshy to their site...
