2 questions about Google, subdomains and DMOZ...

Are subdomains counted as external or internal sites?

Hi again, I have another Q, this time about Google, subdomains and DMOZ. Our boss wants to strip our 1400+ pages site into something like a "family" of smaller sites, to get more external links. Thing is, we can use subdomains and save some cash on domain and hosting services, but...

-Does google counts subdomain pages/links as external or internal links?
-Can you register a subdomain to DMOZ in a different category than your domain?

Any other way to increase external links?

Thanks in advance!

Subdomains are treated the same as separate sites.

Subdomains can also get listed in dmoz, but it depends on the individual Editor. (You might want to post the dmoz question in our Directories forum).

If subdomains are used to break up a "store" into different departments dmoz is highly unlikely to list any more than they would if there were no subdomains.

With a content site it is more likely but by no means a guarantee. The directories forum here will provide insight into this and if you want a captive audience of other ODP editors (there are a bunch that post in the directories forum here too) do a Google search for "resource zone". If you search that site you'll find some threads where some incredibly content rich sites were (unreasonably IMHO) limited to one or two listings.

If you choose to ask about your specific site there, be prepared to accept the answer given by whoever responds. You can be sure lots of ODP editors will look at it and maybe even take notes.

Hi Gutabo

Did your boss ever consider a reciprocal link exchange?
He would then have plenty of new inbound links to just one single domain (the same one you have now)?

I would think about it if I were him
