blogging site gets high PR?

ran into one of the blogging site by accident.
surprised to see PR 8 with 200,000+ backlinks - most of them being their own member's page rinking to the one main page.

If i apply the same principle, (for example) then review pages of each products from e-com site linking back to index; each member pages linking back to index; each guestbook pages linking back to index would work for high PR?

Or, am i just totally LOST on this topic?

Hello James, I don't think that you could manufacture much PageRank just by linking lots of pages together. On the other hand, if the pages of your site get PR from the main part of the Web then you can boost your home page by linking to it.
