Seems easy, almost too easy - where are the pitfalls? Will it work? Is it ethical - and, if it isn't, should I care? :)
Avoid tricks intended to improve search engine rankings. A good rule of thumb is whether you'd feel comfortable explaining what you've done to a website that competes with you. Another useful test is to ask, "Does this help my users? Would I do this if search engines didn't exist?"
Make it make sense to your visitors by linking through "other products by this web master" or "Interesting widgets you may be interested in". Doesn't look fishy to me, won't look fishy to a visitor, and Google will be happy too.
Try not to be OVERLY paranoid about Google. You gotta hit it pretty hard and nasty to trigger its spam detectors.
