Multiple Domains

My primary domain name is not spelled as it sounds. This was a stupid mistake of mine, but anyway...

I registered two other domain names that are spelled like my primary domain name sounds.

(the following domain names are not my actual domain names, just made up examples.)

i.e. primary domain linyx.com. links.com was taken so I registered linyxcorp.com and linkscorp.com. Now when people ask me for my address I give say linyxcorp.com and even if they type in linkscorp.com, they can still find my site. Each of these three domain names loads exactly the same site.

My primary domain name linyx.com has been in use longer and therefore has many more links coming in to it than the others. Since we started using the other domain names we are getting incomming links to all three domain names.

Is there any way that we can tell Google to group them together, so that they share the same link popularity?

Are we shooting ourselves in the PR by doing this?

Any advice?

If you are using a redirect to take people from the other domains to your main one then you shouldnt have a problem.

PR from the other domains would be passed to your main domain too.

But if you are displaying the same content in each domain, then you may have a duplicate content issue with Google.

Ideally (and this is only my opinion), you should only have the content on your main domain. The others should either redirect to your main domain or have a page in place with a link for people to follow to your main domain.

Either way, I would send a quick email to the sites that link to your other domains and ask them to change the link to your main domain, but that's not as big an issue.

I Agree with Marketing Guy. Your page rank is going to eventually be the same for all three domains, but you have real issue with building link popularity.

You're going to have to build Link Pop. for three different domain names (it's going to be 3 times as difficult). It would be ideal to have one Primary domain name and optimize your site with that domain name in mind.

(i.e. build link popularity for "linyxcorp.com", or which ever one has more BW links. Then contact all of your link partners that are going to "linkscorp.com" and tell them to switch the link to "linyxcorp.com")

You should then set your "alternate domains" as "linkscorp.com" and which ever other domains that you have for the site.

That way when someone types in that domain they get to your site.

This should solve your problem and make it easier to optimize your site. I hope this helps!

P.S - If I am confusing you let me know. I'll help you out.

Upone further investigation it appears that Google does consider TWO of my domain names ONE AND THE SAME.

link:www.domain1.com and link:www.domain2.com return the EXACT same list! Both sites have exactly the same PR too.

Both domain names point to the exact same site on the exact same IP.

It seems that a link to either domain is included in the link popularity of ther other.

Am I reading this right?

And related to jalessi's questions (since we have a very similar issue), what type of redirect is best here?
