The small software company i work for finally decided to get our website created two months ago. It basically a static company brochure about our services. Problem is we still dont appear in Google, not bothered if we do well for keywords, just making into the index would be nice
Site has about 10 interlinked pages. Pages are about 17-25k in size, with at least 200 words on each page, used a lot of the techniques picked up in here, such using <h1> tags, bold, alt text, good use of keywords, no spammy meta tags, etc.
Site doesn’t use any methods to try and fool the search engines, and has no external links.
Submitted the site to all the major search engines, and paid for it to be in FAST and Inktomi. Also submitted it to dmoz under a regional category with only about 20 other companies in(still waiting). And submitted it to a few directory’s that specialise in our company’s line of work. The Fast and Inktomi are both working well, even manage to appear in the top 10 on some of our keywords.
Google bot index our site on the 18th and 19th of March crawling all our pages. An again on the 9th April but this last time it never visited all pages – just robots.txt and the root.
Searching on google we don’t appear, have no backward links, and according to the Google toolbar, which is grey, the site hasn’t been index yet, is it just a matter of time, or should it at least show we’ve been indexed by now?
Looking at some of directory’s we were recently(last few weeks) added to, the pages with our company profile have a PR3-4. A search for our company name and you find several results from *one* of the directory’s we submitted to. These pages are showing a page rank of 4 and have a link to our site. Only problem i can think off is the link maybe to long for google to count as a backward link to our site. Should we link back to the pages in the directory’s that link to us(would that help us or just the directory)?
Should we aim to have more pages?(would twice as many pages help significantly?)
Worth submitting the pages on other sites that have links to us so google definitely finds some backward links?
Are we doing something wrong or should we just wait a while longer?
thanks

All that will do is pass some of your pr back to the directory. If you feel it will benefit your users, put the links up. In the end, it's all about user experience.

Most definately! Content is king.
>>Worth submitting the pages on other sites that have links to us so google definitely finds some backward links?
I would not submit other peoples pages to engines. They are most likely indexed anyway and if they aren't, it's most likely a problem on their site.

Sounds like you are on track, so keep getting good inbound links and developing more content.
