I've never been able to find my site in a legitimate search, on any page, but now I've started to re-build my site with keyword-rich textual content on every page, and a cleaner layout...making it as easy as possible for the bots to crawl it. I've targeted specific keywords that I want people to use when they find my site.
My question...how can I gauge my progress? I have Google Toolbar so I can see PR, but how and when can I start to see if my techniques are working? When does Google do it's thing, and how long does it take to notice any sort of improvement?
Also...I've never been listed in DMOZ. For over a year I have been submitting my site in two-month intervals (so as not to spam), but it's never shown up. How can I know if I've been blacklisted, and could that have something to do with not finding my site in Google searches? I can see my site description when I type in my domain name, but not with a relevant search. Also...the description is months outdated...how long before Google posts a relevant description?
It's a ton of questions, please bear with me as I'm just now starting to see all the things I could have been doing. Any responses are greatly appreciated.
welcome to webmasterworld.
I am sure as time passes you will pick things up on a daily basis whilst reading the forums, and tweaking your site.
a good starting point would be
[webmasterworld.com...] along with reading through the Google news Forum, or doing a site search (link at top of page).
Most questions and more will have been answered in detail in the past, many with detailed analysis and feedback from members, even months later with results after picking up tips from the message.
as for dmoz, you could try asking over at [resource-zone.com...] - this is a forum in support of Dmoz and many of your questions, even specific to your site could be answered.
once again welcome.

Do what shak says and go over there to that forum DO NOT RE SUBMIT AGAIN because evey time you re-submit, it takes out the subital you submitted. So the guy(site reviewer/editor) in your category might have gotten to it in 3 months, but you keep re-submiting every 2 months, and it basicly goes to the bottom of the pile eveytime you resubmit.
I learned that about 4 weeks ago after mine was ok for 2 months, then I resubmitted, now Im going to have to wait 3 months more or so.
Good luck!
