New sites given a boost?

I have noticed that my new site launched in Jan only took 2 updates to get to the number 3 position with no SEO at all. I have around 90 related reciprocal links in directory with own pages for categories and no more than 25 links on each page.

Would this be because it is a new site and the good ranking will fade? Its currently snuggled between 2 sites that look well optimised and have PR of 9 and 8 respectivly.

Kind of wierd... any explanations?

My PR is currently set at PR 5 and most internal pages are also set at PR5 or PR4 (1 or 2 at PR 3).
