Just ONE high high PR link... Will this work?

Simple question, if you have a site with a high PR (say 7 or 8 with very few links on it i.e. less than 10), and they link to you, what will the likely PR be on your site? Remember, this is the only link pointing to your site but it is of course a very good one with spot on anchor text! How might this affect PR? Any examples or experience with this hypothetical situation :)?

I created a brand new site, and linked to it from a PR4 site, and the new one instantly had PR3.

So, I assume the same would hold true for higher PR's, and a PR8 linking to a site would give it a PR7.

i dont agree that linking to a pr8 will give you a pr7..these higher prs are based on much more than just one link to pr8.

I launched a site with one link from a PR7 and it got PR4.

But that was a fairly busy ODP category, so that could account for the large PR loss.

I would certainly recommend getting more inbound links though.

Scot, if you would have been on of 3 or so links in a PR7 ODP category you'd easily have reached PR 6 ;) it's jsut that the PR 7's vote was devided between so many pages.

BTW: might be a good idea to refer to outgoing links as "votes" to avoid the EVER recuring discussions about "loosing" PR to links and "giveing" and "transfering"...

FleaPit

normally (for the cased described) you will get approximately a PR for your homepage which is lowered by one compared to the page linking to you. Of course, it depends on the exact PR of the page (is it a high PR7 or a low one) and the exact number of links on that page.

The PR for your other pages depends on the link structure and number of pages.

I had a site with just one incoming link from a PR8 page and I got PR7.

Thanks for your advice so far. To elaborate further, I am looking at a site with a PR 8 homepage. There are currently two external links with both sites having a PR 7. The rest of the links go to internal pages (approx 10 links) all of which also have a PR 7. Therefore I am thinking if I can get a link from here, which it is looking like I can :), I guess I can expect a PR of 7 or 6 in the future, all other variables aside.
