Link from pr0

risky business?

We are analizing the possibility to include a "link to us" section in our web, but we are concerned about the possibility that a web with a pr0 could link to us. If that was the case, would our pr be "contaminated" with this pr0 link? (i am not talking about reciprocal linking, just a link from someone's web to us)

Hi Catfree,

There shouldn't be any risk involved by being linked by anybody, including PR0 or banned site.
You're only responsible for who you are linking TO and not for who's linking to you as you have no control on the last.

It's a good idea and something I often do. You will always get 0-Ranked sites adding your site URL to their dodgy link pages, but it will make no difference and will cause no contamination just as long as you don't link back to them.

You can then easily pick-and-choose which relevant sites (with nice plump and juicy pageranks) you link back to.

Thanks for your help,
I have a related question,

My web is pr 6 , a banned site (or a pr0 site) links to my homepage, From my web, there's a page like
[my...] site.com/section/index.asp?cat=30&sec=4
that links to the banned site.

would I be "contaminated"?

I would say it otherwise, in which cases do a web gets "contamivated" from a banned site link?

PR0 linking to you is fine (imo)

Do NOT, repeat do NOT link back.

PR0 linking to you is fine (imo)
Do NOT, repeat do NOT link back.

Perhaps you could take a moment to expand on this.

If nobody ever links to a PR0 site, hows does a PR0 ever become even a PR1?

OK, they can submit to DMOZ, but other than than that....?

Ken_b it certainly sounds like kicking someone whilst they are down doesn't it.

jrobbio;

Yeah, it can sound like that.

Perhaps another way to look at the PR and link issue, is to say one needs to be carefull when linking to any page or site.

A site that is PR5 today can easily become PR0 or even banned from the Google index with the next update.

On top of that, a page in any given site can be PR0 while the home page is a PR6. How likely that is depends on the link structure with in the site and many other factors, such as page content.

Basically, it may well be smart to use caution when linking out to other sites, regardless of their current Page Rank status.

sorry clarification required.

In this context I was referring to a PR0 site which a webmaster is aware has been penalised by Google.

the impression I got from the post was that the webmaster was being led into a link-exchange.

most NEW sites I link to tend to be grey bar sites and NOT PR0.

Shak;

Thanks for the clarification. I certainly agree that linking to a site that one knows to have been penalized would not be advisable.

My understanding is that this should cause you no problems. Anyone can link to you, it is who you link to that can cause trouble for you.

...a banned site (or a pr0 site) links to my homepage, From my web, there's a page like
http: //www.my site.com/section/index.asp?cat=30&sec=4 that links to the banned site.

would I be "contaminated"?

Yes, If you link back to a banned site, that could cause trouble for you.

Ken,

Which pages do you think would be "contaminated"? The interior linking page, the homepage or my whole site?
