Just done some quick research and come accross some rather disturbing results.

I did a search for : allinurl:".com" and receieved 1,220,000,000 results and thought that seemed about right then I did another few searches choosing ther other highly used domain tld's and it seems .co.uk has only 5,410,000 pages in the index! Here are my results :

.com : 1,220,000,000
.de : 1,120,000,000
.net : 256,000,000
.org : 204,000,000
.fr : 56,700,000
.co.uk : 5,410,000

Surely there is more than 5 Million .co.uk pages online. I am not saying that I am correct I may well not be.

.De seems to have massive amounts of listings

Thanks

Steve

Not all the 1,120,000,000 pages you think have ".de" as tld, are real. If you look for

allinurl:".de" la vie

you will see some pages with .com .fr .net and more.

I think the dot in ".de" is ignored in the search.

I have just figured that out but I did a little more research:

.com.cn has 2.3 Million Pages
.co.uk has 5.4 Million Pages

i would have thought .co.uk would have loads more pages than 5.4 Million Ok here in the UK people use .com as well but UK people have to get behind .co.uk or google may be doing something we dont know

Thanks

I think takagi is right,

to put things more into perspective number wise:

Do a search for "die" in Google.de for Seiten auf Deutsch: only 8,9 million.

OK we still need the other missing ones to arrive at: 3,083,324,652
although a search for "the" alone surpasses that number by far.

Hmmm...I'm not convinced this is a rigorous test.

You'd need to do a search for der, die, das, den, des, dem and then you'd have to take into account all the times when a definite article is used in the English language when it isn't used in German and vice versa.

I just re-read that.
God, I'm sorry for being such a pedant.
