Linking to Google

Does linking to Google give you a Googleboost

With Gigablast having the clever ploy of allowing a rank jump if you link to the site or have search box (aka Gigaboost) I wondered whether Google had an unmentioned "reward" of paying you back if Google is linked back to.
It just occurred to me that Google will know whether a site is linking to them, like any webmaster worth their salt, by checking the site stats (however they do it) if people click through to the site and of course when the bots crawl it.

I would advise against resizing them.... sooner or later GG is going to find a way to recognize it

I wouldn't disagree more. H tags are suppose to structurate your page. They're supported by netscape2 and Ie2 meaning that they've been here for a while, since HTML2 (back in 95) and back then, internet was INFORMATION INFORMATION INFORMATION - 1000's of pages focused on information. You needed to be able to differenciate headings, sub headings etc, the overall look of the page didn't matter, that's why they are so BOLD ... You were looking for info and you were finding info ...

Nowadays, the look of a site is as important, if not more important (at least in the visitors eyes), than the content so you should still use h tags to structurate a page but, with css, it doesn't have to look ugly ...

I think I read somewhere that if you try to validate a page with more than one <h1> tag there's an error which is understandable: <h1> title of the page, <h2> subtitles ... Let just put this in a educational way: try handing a report to your teacher with 2 different titles on it ('Blue widgets from Uk and 'Red widgets from France' ... let's see how he reacts!

I've realised we've gone off topic here, but go to [nide.snow.utoronto.ca ] and just see how a site with H1 text all over the place looks. A good example of correct usage is I'm glad to say Webmasterworld. To use it, access the css generator, choose the type of style sheet you want to test and then try out the site.

If anyone knows of a good bad site I can see to confirm what I am saying, then please sticky post me it.

with H1 text all over the place

Don't think they used a single H1 on the page you gave us - three <h3>, yes but no <h1>.

You misunderstand, it is a CSS generator script that you use for other sites.

I was thinking of may be putting this search box on my site but do you think that I could change the fact that the result page opens in the same window (I don't want customers to leave the site ...)

le_gber I was thinking the very same thing. I have no basis for this answer, but I don't think it will be a problem. I think Google defaults it to this because they know that many less knowledgeable people with homepages are not going to change it and it is a convenience for them to have it that way.

Why would Google want to stop people making headings look nice (including resizing) with CSS? The very idea is ridiculous.

There have been many discussions of this. Try this one:

[webmasterworld.com...]

Unless you are attempting to show Google one thing and visitors another you are not, and will not be breaking any 'rules'.

Look at the amount of posts on this site by people peeved that obvious spam/keyword stuffing/hidden text/cloaking etc etc. aren't getting picked up by Google's filters. So you think they are about to start banning not even remotely spammy CSS techniques? No way.

[google.com...]

This is what I use for my site. It's very nice because your logo is displayed in the search results with your color scheme.
