What are the weightings per H1?

i.e a bold h1 would give 9/10
a italic h1 would give 7/10
a bold italic h1 would 6/10

can we go a far as to say that google has been desgined with the basic priciples of website desing in mind? i.e using underline , bold and italic can leave a heading somewhat messy , would our phd fellows bear this in mind?

I don't see any reason why an italic H1 tag should carry less weight than a standard H1 Tag. I think all H1's are equal as far as google is concerned.

I agree H1 is H1, which includes underlines, bold and Italics.

Yep, H1 is H1. But I wouldn't bother myself with that. H1+title tag+kywords in the body only brings you to the starting point, as anyone is using it, at least when you are after fairly competitive search terms. from this point and beyond you enter the field of things that really count like PR, links etc.
