The following code is found on a "your search did not match any documents"

<table cellpadding=3 cellspacing=0 border=0 height=40 width=100%><tr><td nowrap bgcolor=#ECF8FF height=40><font size=-1>Want more from Google? Try these <a href="/tour/services/query.html">expert search tips</a></font></td><td align=right valign=top bgcolor=#ECF8FF height=40><font size=-1 class=f>Shameless Self-Promotion</font></td></tr></table>
Why the shameless self promotion

Odd, I did not see that when performing a "your search did not match any documents" search. April first is over, right :)

Could you share the search term?

Probably because Google is having fun with FTC regulations regarding marked advertising.

The space might not be 'worthwhile' for a company, but if Google writes it down as an advertising expense I would imagine they would follow their own / and the FTC's guidelines on labeling it as advertising for themselves.

At least, that has always been my thinking on it...perhaps I'm wrong, though.

They also have a sense of humor...but, most of the site is serious. So they are probably just being funny in a tongue-in-cheek way.

It was link:mydomain.com search for a site with no backlinks. Actually, I happen to know this site is banned but when I visited the toolbar showed a pr of 4 so I checked the backlinks.

<added>This site was actually banned for shameless self promotion among other things, so I found it amusing.</added>

I noticed this earlier today too when I was doing some searches. It just seemed to jump out at me, even though it was in lighter grey text color in their blue box at the bottom. I assumed it was Google's way of poking fun at their shameless self promotion of their search expert tips ;)
