Has anyone noticed this?

For the last 2 days I haven't been able
to load up DMOZ.

While I'm on that note - i've been having trouble
getting listed there. Has anyone dealt with trying
to get listed in categories that seem to have no
editor?

Anyway, the non-english dmoz sites seem to be up
(dmoz.fr, etc)

Let me know!

False alarm - I could not see the DNS entry from AU and neither could a domain availability tool, which makes it look like it is available for purchase. It is safe.

Sorry - I didn't do a search before but
browsed through the google news assuming that
I would have seen it.

Appreciate the help guys :)

This site has given me tons of new ideas to help
promote my site!

One more quick question:

Where is there a link to contact an editor
to check the status of your site?

I can't seem to find it anywhere....

I've been trying to get a description updated on DMOZ for months. I wouldn't care if it didn't come up on Google. I think there are so few volunteers there anymore that things just never get attended to. I wish Google would just trust us and use our meta description.

"I wish Google would just trust us and use our meta description."

You can't be serious.

Yeah, just what we need. Google using hype filled descriptions written by webmasters.

I am sure they trust you, it's the rest of us that might just be tempted to doctor our meta tags ever so slightly - if that was to get us better results

What? It's possible for my web design site to have Britney Spears pictures and weight loss pills that will allow you to lose 30 pounds in an hour. Google should use webmasters meta descriptions! lol

OK I got the point! How naive can I be? :)

I just wish Google would use the meta description of sites by nice people like me. (VBG)

DMOZ has been chugging away lately, they have provided a mirror server especially for editors like myself so that we can always get in to work on our cats. I think the constant slow downs and connection timeouts discouraged editors from working on their cats too much in recent history. Maybe things will happen a little quicker with the mirrors.

In any case, there's channels you can go through if you suspect an editor is no longer active. A lot of editors are working hard behind the scenes, and issues are being addressed. I'd invite you to apply to be an editor and pitch in, plenty of cats need the help, and then you can post your concerns in the forums.

One way of checking yourself is to see when the last update was at the bottom of the page. If the cat is one that you'd expect regular submissions, if it hasn't been updated in 6 months then likely no active editors. However, if some editall spotted a lousy description and changed it yesterday, then it might look from the date on the page it is being actively edited, even if it had 2 year old greens still in the queue.
