Now it seems to be official:

I just searched "checkbox html" and when viewing a cache it displayed:

... have been highlighted: checkbox check box html

I wonder if it only works with words in the dictionary but according to one of my last posts it also found "e w i d g e t" (ewidget is surely a non-dictionary word)

kewl

[google.com...]

look at the highlighting there ;)

ewidget is surely a non-dictionary word

[google.com...] Google knows nothing until you flood the engine with a word. Googleguy start posting more ;).......I'm not sure if they use a dictionary/pure technology or a bit of both

//added
I don't see what you see btw, and AFAIK they put a page up lately saying they dont use stemming at all.

Did not work for my combined keyword (even tho' Google asked if I wanted the two words separated for the search).

here it is

[google.com...]

Good grammar counts

All of your terms are included exactly as you enter them. Google does not automatically include plurals or variations.

I'm not seeing this anywhere either. And, this idea would have problems. I always use this very site as a classic example. If the name is parsed "Web Master World", that would mean that Brett is running a site for those attempting to become planetary dictators using the Internet. You may all address me as "Mein Fuhrer". ;)

nope, had to put "check" into the toolbar to highlight it.

Maybe a local thing just now.....

Did you try without the toolbar?

I tried a standard Google search for "checkbox html", and did not see the highlighting you were talking about.

Maybe you could give us a clue as to which one of the results we should check.

If you search webmasterworld and there were pages with
"web master world" in it (exact phrase), I think it would have been highlighted and it would have been a good hit.

Just my 2 euro ;)

The first hit:

Forms : Check Box - HTML Tutorial
HTML Forms : CHECK BOX, ... HTML, EXPLANATION, EXAMPLE. checkbox name= value=
align= tabindex= checked, Choose one or more options Name of the field. ...
www.echoecho.com/htmlforms09.htm - 26k - Cached - Similar pages

Here's the search:
[google.com...]

And here's the cache:
[216.239.33.100...]

I'm sorry, but when I use the cache link you provided, "checkbox" is highlighted, and "check box" is not.

I took a screenshot and put it under:

wworld.sayegh.de

I hope this is ok, just a temporary subdomain.

It says in the google frame above that "check box" were also part of your search, so maybe this is why they were highlighted?

I assume you actually typed these in when you searched them?

But I didn't:

----------------8<------------------------------------
Here's the search:
[google.com...]

checkbox
+
html

&btnG=Google+Search
------------------------------------------------------

----------------8<------------------------------------
And here's the cache:
[216.239.33.100...]

checkbox
+
html

&hl=en&ie=UTF-8
------------------------------------------------------

I never typed "check box".

Yes, the search term is clearly visible after the words "use the following URL".

It seems to be common for Google to test things locally. It may or may not spread.

On a search for "checkbox", both "checkbox" and "check box" (but not "check boxes") are highlighted in the search results, as well as in the cached pages.

However, that doesn't necessarily mean that the split version "check box" is also used as a search term. I don't see any instance of "check box" in the results where the snippet doesn't also contain the original search term.
