I have site at host.com/mysite/ and I am planning to create new doman host2.com and transfer all the information from host.com/mysite/.

Should I create a redirect script immediately or let the site to still exist for 2-4 weeks? My main concern are the search engine spiders specially google.

Should I direct the links in the site to the new domain?

Any thoughts, suggestion and help on this? Thanks.

I am not an expert in this area, but from what I've read around here 301 redirects are the way to go. Also Google keeps their own DNS cache which they update less frequently, so you'll want to keep the old domain in place for a while (month?).

If your URLs will be changing redirecting to your new site would be needed. The other thing you will have to do is the tedious job of writing to everyone who has linked to you asking them to update your URL. As incoming links are so important with Google you want to get your incoming links updated as soon as possible and not just depend on the redirect.
