How to find position on Google?

Past one or two pages.

Is there a tool that will show where your site is listed on Google for a particular keyword?

I can check the first page or two, but I'd like to know exactly how far down I am on some terms.

Thanks.

there are automated rank checking tools that you can use for google and others, but they are not recommended as all search engines prohibit them in their TOS

if you must then check out WPG

Set your preference to 100 results per page do your search, hit ctrl-f to find your site and look at the scroll bar to estimate where your iste is on that page.

Same as BigDave (adding &num=100 at the end of the first url query) but using [google.com...] will show you the exact number.

Thanks BigDave and Allergic.

The /ie is a nice trick and shows the numbers, but it only shows page titles, not urls, so it is hard to find my site.

tsomers,

I would suggest installing the Google toolbar. Similar to the suggestion by bigdave, run searches with 100 results. In the Google toolbar on the left side enter your URL or website name. Do not hit enter. Instead, use the Google toolbar highlighting function on the right side. Your search term will then be distinguished from the other results.

... The reason I would not use automated software to monitor positioning is simple: I think one can learn a lot by spending some time looking at the results. One will be suprised how much there is to see.

imho

If you visit your site and then search, your site will stick out like a sore thumb, as it will be the only one with purple linkcolour :) And yes it is helpful to know whereabouts you are ranked on google even if it is pages down, sometimes you wonder if you are ranked at all :P

Thanks NativeNewYorker and futureX. Both are very helpful suggestions. Now I know how to find my pages - wherever they may be on Google.

GREAT suggestion. :) Thanks from another New Yorker!
