If your website is down during the dance... would it matter?
We are going to be taking down our site this sunday March 30th and moving it to another location. Google has already deep crawled us for month of march. Any thoughts?

Just make sure it is back up for the next deep crawl. If your not being crawled it shouldn't matter.

You shouldn't take the site down to move it. You should leave it up at it's current location and post it as a duplicate at the new location. Google does not update their DNS info in real time and Googlebot will crawl the old location for up to 30 days after you move the site.

At the recommendation of many on this board when we moved our site in late January we did as described above. Googlebot did not start crawling our new location for 27 days. However since we kept both locations live and made all updates to both locations we didn't have an issue with the deep crawl for February.

Hope this helps...

The new location will be using the same static ip address as the current location. It will be a problem once we move it to a different ip address.

so long as you've got some good links pointing to the site I don't see that being a problem
