This may be a totally newb question so don't freak out. After the recent Google dance, I reached #3 for a particular search term. It stayed that way for two weeks. Now, in the third week, my position slipped to #6. Is your position for Google results always in flux? Or does it only change between dances?

As I understand the position on the serp is always in flux, but between updates positions alter only slightly.
ie 3 or 4 places up, as well as down.

However, directly following an update positions can alter dramaticaly, sometimes for the good and sometimes for the worst.

Weeker PR sites tend to suffer "slight movement" more often between updates.
Reletive to the competiveness of the opposition!

Thanks. The thread answered my question.

After reading the material however, it generated another question: Do you have to resubmit to Google periodically even if the main crawler is coming to your site? Does it help? Does it hurt?

Nope no re-submit, it will not harm, but it will not help
