I've had my site around for about 1 month now and Google has been playing a game with me. My site appears ever so often on the google search and sometimes not for the same keyword. I understand it might be the Google "hiccup". My question is since my site has a grey bar on the google toolbar, does it mean its banned or not ranked. If its not ranked how long does it take for it to get ranked. I've search for my site using the www.domain.com, and it comes up blank. Both freshbot and deepbot has crawled through a good portion of my website. Thanks.
Sam
What you're facing is due to the "everflux". Do a site search on that term and you'll learn a lot.
If your site has been recently hit by the "deep crawlers", it will be ranked during the next Google Dance. The grey bar showing now simply means that the site is not ranked yet.
To get your first PR indication, you need to:
1. have your site "discovered" and visited by Google fresh bots
2. have the site indexed "in depth" by the Deep Bots
3. wait for the next Dance to be permanently included in the index
You're presently at level "3" here above. That's why your site only shows in the SERPs after having been hit by the freshbots, and for a duration not exceeding 48 hours. You will go through show/noshow phases until the next dance is over (end of this month/begin of next)

That's not even everflux if your site moves in and out and currently deserves a grey / white / red bar. Your site is to "young" to show stable behaviour / pr / positions. You site is prob not yet in the final index so what you see is the freshbot game.
If you're interested in grey bar theories, do a site search for grey bar - you'll find enough to read for weeks.
The WebmasterWorld Google Knowlegebase [webmasterworld.com] should also answer most of your questions. Also worth to read is lazerzubb's Googlebot Deepbot and Freshbot FAQ [webmasterworld.com].
My site was up for a good week last week on Google. I know what everflux is. Just not sure if this is the case.
