PageRank is a constant topic of discussion here at WW.

Obviously we will never know exactly how PR works, but what has been nailed down to be true (such as inbound links, link text, quality of those links)? Anything else?

And what do we know not to be true?

Curious to get the opinion of the more experienced members.

I know there will be speculation all around but what FACTS do we know?

If you do a site search you will find enough threads to keep you going for ages.

I guess unfortunately most of what is out there about PR is speculation.

For instance, is their any solid proof on whether subdirectories hurt your PR? What about CGI or PHP?

Everything seems to be theory. Which is fine. It keeps me curious and forces me to constantly try new things.

Just wondering if there was any actual solid info out there that I haven't come across.

Fact is that Markus' speculation still holds quite strong ;)
