Hi,

I'm a new user, hope I am listing this in the proper place and appreciate any help or insight.

After this last Google update we rose to a SERP (hope thats the right usage) of about 4-5 in list for our best keyword. We were there for a few days (in what seemed to be the new list results and the one that was generally in www2). Now (Monday) the list seems to have reverted back to the old list and we are gone. Is this the "Dance"? Did I misunderstand something? When will the new list stay there until the next update?

Also, does Flash on a home page hurt your SERP or PR ranking?

Thanks Again!

Hello American28, and Welcome to Webmasterworld.

The results are not yet final for this month's dance. In particular, you will see the results at www.google.com switch from the old results to the new results on and off for the next few days. This could explain why you are not seeing your new rankings all the time.

As far as Flash goes, I don't think that in itself it helps or hurts, as long as there is sufficient HTML content on the page to give the search engines some sense of what the page is about, and how to navigate to elsewhere in your site.

You might try deleting all the flash from your page, and then looking at it in a browser. Do you see anything that makes sense? Can you tell what your page is about? Can you still navigate across your site?

Others may disagree, but that's my 2 cents.

How are you using the Flash. Is it just an embedded movie along with normal HTML content or is it a splash page?

Yes what you are referring to is the dance. Wait til the update settles to see the jumping around stop.

Great, thanks for the info on the "dance". The flash I am speaking of is not set up yet and would be on the home page with all its content and good Google set up. The flash would be, as an example, just a graphic doing some animation, etc.
