Big changes with Google Algos?

Hello,

After a lot of effort to optimize pages and urls
last month's update was great for one of my sites as it ended up with a pr 6, over 300 back links and over 1400 pages in the index

I haven't added any new content on the site ever since but this latest update was calamity:
the site lost 85% of it's backlinks, the number of pages indexed dropped from 1400 to 36 and my pr dropped to 5.

Since i haven't made any changes i suppose the "rules" have changed

Any idea to what might have ocuured?

You're not alone. Similar problems here.

Backlinks disappearing (PR 5 and above), new backlinks not appearing when they should...
Backlinks disappeared completely for one site for no obvious reason. One site disappeared for no obvious reason - though we've had that happen before a couple of times and they come back in the next update.

I s'pose the drops I'm seeing in PR on a couple of our sites are related to the backlinks vanishing but I can't see why they're no longer showing up on Google.

New Google directory listings from dmoz haven't helped - our new category has PR0 - our old one was 6 - and the new directory seems to've lost some of our other sites' listings although they are still obviously there in dmoz.

Considering I wasn't expecting much change this time apart from maybe some of the new high PR backlinks having a plus effect, this is pretty demoralising. Seems to be getting worse as the update goes on. Ho hum.

More than 20 backlinks - PR5
Now 11 backlinks - PR4

Seems strange to me! We'll see after update... lets hope :)
