They claim more than 425 million images, [google.com...]
up from 390 in january:
[webmasterworld.com...]
difficult to find those type of numbers through a search though..
by the way, do a search for .jpg and look who comes up first.
Pagerank.
I noticed the PNG support on 6 March, but I hadn't checked for a couple months previous to that.
Since then I have done an informal analysis of PNG Popularity over time and reported the results to the PNG Development Group's "png-list" e-mail. The first post in that thread appears below.
(The search "filetype:png blue" returned the highest reported PNG percentage, at 19.31%.)

========================================================
I have collected "PNG Popularity" data using searches at [images.google.com...] . Each search was of the form:
filetype:png 2000
I assume there is a correlation between a year number and how many images related to that number are found. There is obviously not a direct correlation, but the simple technique seems to be fairly effective. A statistician could probably do wonders with the raw data below.
Me, I just plan to build a web page to make this information more "user friendly". It will include at least one graph and maybe a link to the OpenOffice.org spreadsheet which generated it. My reason for this post to PNG-List is to make the raw data available and solicit ideas and comments.
... even comments from statisticians. :)
I'd like to do a similar thing for MNG, but currently Google doesn't track MNG. It probably won't until IE adds native MNG support. Even if I could gather data now, the number of hits would be quite low and likely have no statistical meaning. Google would probably need to differentiate animated GIF's from static ones in order to have something useful to compare the MNG count with.
