Google update position vs. Freshbot

Does Freshbot modify a sites position?

Greetings all, I'm new to this forum and am certainly glad I have found it...

I am trying to understand the difference between the search results ranking that a site achieves after each Google Dance vs. any modification of position when the Freshbot visits the page.

Am I correct in assuming that the position/ranking is set during each Dance, and that Freshbot just reflects new or changed content for use in the google description snippet? Or do Freshbot visits also effect ranking?

Well that's the first question I have... I hope it's not too silly for all you pro's! :)

NeverHome.. not a pro, but *I think* freshbot affects pages, not sites. Certainly ranks change for 2 to 3 days if a new page (or maybe even a modifed page) is spidereds and is good enough to be there. Then its back to never never land until the next update.

I dont think Pr changes until the monthly update though im not an expert at this as i dont have the toolbar switched on, and dont really worry about PR as much as other factors.

Freshbotted pages, even though live for a few days only can really bring a lot of hits to your site. I have a feeling they are given a "boost" - (a better ranking than they will eventually attain in the monthly update). Freshbotted pages to us provide a significant proportion of google referrals, though to be fair we do add around 100 pages a month and change 200 to 500 others every 1 day to 30 days.

Freshbot effects ranking to. During the month between major updates there will be some shift for my keyphrases and every once in awhile a major uprising of an unknown page with decent links due to freshbot. Do a search for everflux or similar and you will find some decent info on the issue.

Thanks Chiyo and Jeremy. I had never heard the term everflux before, and as suggested did a search... finding this page:

[webmasterworld.com...]

And that has answered my questions, and more! Thanks.
