Popups when searching Google

What can Google do about it?

Recently when I am searching in Google I get this annoying popups which are served from http://xmlsearch.gator.com/overture/

I believe these popups are 'spyware'. I wonder if there is anything Google can do about it?

The problem is likely at your end. I'd wager that you have Gator hiding in your system somewhere, spawning popups.

You can clean it up with a number of spyware eliminating programs. A highly-recommended free one is Ad-Aware from [lavasoftusa.com...]

Another good spyware killing program is Spybot Search and Destroy. I'd give that a try.

Yes I have Gator on my system just to keep track of what they are up to. However I never got these adds when searching in Google.

My question would be if Google intends to do anything about it because there are many Google users who might think the adds are sponsored by Google itself.

A year or so ago, I read a page directly from Google's front page that went to a page outlining the fact that they do not have popup ads, and letting people know that any coincidence of a popup was due to a time-delayed ad from a previous surf location. There was much more but unfortunately Google must have buried the page somewhere.
