A change in the PR algo?

Hi all,

Until now, all pages located at a "one clic distance" from main page had the main page's PR -1

This seems to have changed now as all those pages have the same PR as the main page.

Is it just me?

Dan

<edit>for those with the toolbar installed, add this line in the hosts file:
216.239.39.100 toolbarqueries.google.com </edit>

Dan,

how many sites have you actually checked this on?

Shak

(afaik, new PR algo/whatever has NOT settled down yet)

I never saw that automatism really. Depends very much on you linking scheme, internal and external.
In fact there are sites, where the home page is not the page with the highest PR.

Why is it that you all can see your new page rank? My site is new and has been indexed by google this update, which im very happy with the results (main 2 word keyword falls second and third) all my backlinks show up on google(link:http://mysite.com) but my pagerank on the toolbar is still grey...?

also www.google.com shows the new index here

Toolbar does funny things during the update. Wait til it finishes.

>backlinks show up on google(link:http://mysite.com)

I'm suprised you can even see your links on a new site. I've checked several sites, and Google link doesn't work for me on anything less than a PR4. If you started out that high, Congrats!

hetzeld

the answer if the other pages have the same ToolbarPR as the main page depends on:

- number of pages
- link struture (did you have just a backlink on every page or can you reach each page from the other)
- are there incoming links only to your main page
- the real PR (not only the ToolbarPR)
- number of outgoing links and their location
- other things

If
- you have only incoming links for your main page
- there is a link from each pages to each other page
- the number of pages is not very large
- the real PR is not just above some bound

than it is likely that the pages will have the same ToolbarPR.

Probably only the real PR for your main page was increased, while the relation of the real PR is still the same.
