Someone was saying that new domains that were never submitted and have no backlinks showing up in google have been indexed. The speculation was that google has access to the domain databases and checks it because of that. I'm thinking, there probably are places on the web that list new domains and the spider simply followed a link. What do you WW experts think?

That's not a bad point.
I have a domain listed that has one link on a 'noindex' page. (here) and it shows for the exact domain name?

We've had domains under development indexed. We don't use the Google toolbar any more!
