Heavy reliance on link text is inappropriate

In my opinion, Google's algo based on link text is not completely appropriate. Obviously, if my store and domain is called The Store, say, and we sell widgets of all types, most links would be of the format

The Store Widgets of all types

So, the link text would not usually comprise of the term widgets. Now, the anchor text containing The Store is not going to help much, unless someone's searching for The Store, which normally wouldn't be the case.

To get around this, people go for unprofessional hyphenated keyword domains and call their business (Something) Widgets too. As everyone would agree, that is not entirely appropriate, as the long term objective, as per Brett and many others, is to build a professional business image.

So ideally, while link text should carry weight, the text following link text should also be given significant weightage for more reasonable results. Many sites would be getting links where the link text would contain the site's name, but the short description following it would actually the containe the relevant keywords.

I consider hyphenated keyword domains highly professional for use on the web. Tell the user exactly what the site is selling. Branding is just a Bad Idea in most cases on the WWW. Works well often in bricks and mortar businesses to. Consider Burger King and Pizza Hut.
